  • OUTREACH INITIATIVES

The following outreach initiatives were completed by the SEU during the reporting period:

A.        Training:

  • April – June 2012, KRLA Sales Executive, attended a sales course at SCBA learning about sales product, the basics for selling, prospecting & new business, making the right sales decisions, interactive sales, media selling, and client relationships.

     

  • May 29, 2012, KRLA General Sales Manager taught a class at SCBU (Southern California Broadcasting University).  Taught students how to manage their businesses and touched on subjects such as “Turning No’s to Yes’s”.

           

B.        Events with Educational Institutions:

November 15, 2011 Station Tour - Keys Academy (Home School) toured the station (approximately 60 students).

January 12, 2012 Station Tour – Oak Mesa Elementary School toured the station (approximately 60 kids).

May 24, 2012 Station Tour – Park Academy grades K -3rd grade toured the station.

C.        Job Fairs:

  • The Human Resources Manager and a Promotions/Street Team Assistant attended “Mount San Antonio College Career Job Fair” on October 05, 2011.  At this job fair applications were distributed and resumes were collected. Various job openings at Salem Communications were discussed.

     

  • The Human Resources Manager and a Promotions /Street Team Assistant attended the “Women for Hire Job Fair” on October 18, 2011.  At this job fair applications were distributed and resumes were collected. Various job openings at Salem Communications were discussed.
  • The Human Resources Manager and KRLA General Sales Manager attended “Hire Live Hiring Event” on October 20, 2011.  At this job fair applications were distributed and resumes were collected. Various job openings at Salem Communications were discussed.
  • The Human Resources Manager and a Promotion/Street Team Assistant attended “Mount San Antonio College’s 7th Annual RadioFest” on November 16, 2011.  At this job fair applications were distributed and resumes were collected. Various job openings at Salem Communications were discussed.
  • The KFSH General Sales Manager and the Human Resources Assistant attended “Hire Live Career Fair” on December 13, 2011.  At this job fair applications were distributed and resumes were collected. Various job openings at Salem Communications were discussed.
  • The Human Resources Manager and Human Resources Assistant attended “Los Angeles Career Fair” on February 07, 2012. At this job fair applications were distributed and resumes were collected. Various job openings at Salem Communications were discussed.
  • The Human Resources Manager and Receptionist/Listener Services attended “Glendale College’s Career Fair” on April 18, 2012.  At this job fair applications were distributed and resumes were collected. Various job openings at Salem Communications were discussed.  Small prizes and candy was also distributed.
  • The Human Resources Manager and the KRLA General Sales Manager attended “Inland Empire East End Job Fair & Career Expo” on May 30, 2012. At this job fair applications were distributed and resumes were collected. Various job openings at Salem Communications were discussed.
  • The Human Resources Manager and a Promotions/Street Team Assistant attended “Imagine Job & Resource Fair” on June 05, 2021.  At this job fair applications were distributed and resumes were collected. Various job openings at Salem Communications were discussed.

D.        Internship Program:

The objective of this program is to allow college students the chance to work with a major market media group.  Through this experience, the student is able to learn more about the broadcasting industry and better evaluate if it is a career path they would choose.  The Promotions and Sales Department work with the students in establishing their schedules and what best fit with the station group agenda.  The SEU hosted two interns during this reporting period: 

  • A student from Biola University interned in January 2012 
  • A student from Cal State Fullerton interned in April 2012

E.         Management Training Programs:

The Salem Manager of Human Resources conducts monthly HR Network Training sessions via teleconference and Powerpoint presentations, which includes review of EEO policies and compliance. The SEU’s Office Manager participates in these training sessions each month and then routinely communicates with the SEU’s General Manager and other management team members to keep all apprised of the company and SEU’s policy on equal employment.

            F.         Other Outreach Initiatives:

  • September 30, 2011 Station Tour – Scouts from Lone Star Scouts troupe.  Toured the radio station, met radio personalities and received radio stickers.
  • November 11, 2011 Station Tour - Cub Scouts from Pack #775 (from city of Yorba Linda).  Toured the radio station, met radio personalities and received radio stickers.
  • November 12, 2011 Station Tour - Cub Scouts Pack #775. (from city of Yorba Linda). Toured the radio station, met radio personalities and received radio stickers.
  • January 21, 2012 Station Tour – Cub Scouts from Orange County. Toured the radio station, met radio personalities and received radio stickers.
  • January 27, 2012 Station Tour – Cub Scouts and Daisy Scouts. Toured the radio station, met radio personalities and received radio stickers.
  • February 13, 2012 Station Tour – Cub Scouts Pack #919. Toured the radio station, met radio personalities and received radio stickers.
  • During this reporting period KFSH participated in the gift collection drive for Military Children’s Charity in Santa Ana.
  • During this reporting period Salem Communications assisted the “Army National Guard” with their fundraising, by providing them with spots.
